    a while my doctor said to me take vitamin d supplements he doesn’t care at
    all what can I do?

    1. Toxicity is a concern at 10,000 IU/ day, which is pretty high. Start by
      taking 2,000 IU/ day, get some sun if you can, and have it checked again in
      3 months.

  11. There are so many reasons that Americans are so likely to be vitamin D
    deficient. The more you weigh the more vitamin D you need since 1) vitamin
    D is “sequestered” in fat, so the fatter you are the more supplemental
    vitamin D you need to keep your blood levels at LEAST 40-60 ng/ml. Dark
    skin, living further north than LA, the sun rays don’t hit us at an angle
    that saturates the skin with UVB rays, using sun screen, covering the skin
    with clothing, staying indoors because “I don’t want wrinkled skin”, or you
    prefer air conditioned buildings to the great outdoors, not drinking milk
    or dairy alternatives with D, and the list goes on. The point is to take
    enough vitamin D supplement to keep your blood levels at 40-60ng/ml. I
    take 10000 per day, 170#, blood level is 80. :)

    vitamin D. The latest research revealed that retinol, which is the animal
    form of vitamin A that is present in cod liver oil will decrease the
    efficacy of vitamin D. The best form of D3 to take orally is the D3 sourced
    from algae which has no mercury and hormonal contaminations. Also the best
    form of vitamin A to take in order to avoid its negative effect on vitamin
    D3 is to get beta carotene from carrots and green leafy vegetables.
